Who we help
Rukua Raviravi Primary School
The school was founded in 1939, with no actual school building existed, instead a Methodist church building was used to cater for the students.
In the 1950s first two buildings were built for classrooms as more and more students were coming in from the villages to attend school.
Now we currently have 142 day students and 20 boarding students. The day students are from the 3 nearby villages: Rukua, Raviravi and Nawaisomo. Students of two of these villages come by boat every morning and go by boat in the afternoon.
The boarding students are from Lalati Village, which is about 5 km away from school and coming to school daily is expensive with the rising cost of fuel. They travel by boat on Monday mornings and go back home on Friday afternoon. This way they get to spend their weekends at home.
Subjects taught in School include- English and Literacy, Math, Science, and Social Science. There is also PEMAC bundle (PE, Music, Art & Craft) that is taught in school as well.
Recently there have been a lot of changes in the Fiji curriculum that require more supplies in order for changes to be constructive and successful. As more emphasis is now placed on student guided research and hands-on projects, we are short on certain items such as school supplies and technology equipment.
We appreciate any help in reaching our goals and help kids get the education quality we are aiming for.
Sawua District School
The school was built way back in 1969 under the provisions of the Education Ordinance to conduct courses for grades 1-8. Students from three villages namely Dakui Beqa, Dakuni and Soliyaga are having their education in this institute.
Students from Dankuni Village and Soliyaga Village stay in their dorms from Monday to Friday before they return home for the weekend.
We currently have 80 students at the school- age ranging from 5 to 13yrs. There are eight classes with 6 qualified teachers in total.
Reading issues is one of the main problems faced across the board because English is our second language. It is also because of the lack of resources we teachers have when compared to urban, or town schools. Therefore, we ask for assistance in terms of teaching resources including laptops, tablets, stationeries, and more, so that teachers and students can have access to a better education.
